Navigating the Transition to Smart Tachograph Version 2

Starting January 1, 2025, all vehicles used for international transport must switch to Smart Tachograph Version 2. This change is part of new EU regulations to enhance road safety and compliance. Fleet Complete is here to guide you through this transition smoothly.

What’s Changing?

From January 1, 2025, vehicles with analogue or pre-June 2019 digital tachographs must upgrade to Smart Tachograph Version 2. This new version offers advanced features, including:

  1. Geographic Information System (GIS): Automatically records when and where vehicles cross national borders.
  2. Enhanced Enforcement: Tracks activities like border crossings and loading/unloading, and sends data to authorities.
  3. Better Security: New anti-tampering features, including satellite signal authentication and independent internal sensors.

What You Need to Do?

You may also need to upgrade your GPS controller to keep downloading driver and tachograph files. To check if your equipment is compatible, contact your account manager or write to info@ecofleet.com. We’ll help you identify what needs replacing to stay compliant.

Stay Compliant with Driving Time Rules

In addition to upgrading your tachographs, it’s essential to adhere to the existing tachograph rules in Europe, which mandate that drivers take a break of at least 45 minutes after every 4.5 hours of driving. This break can be split into one 15-minute and one 30-minute segment, ensuring drivers remain well-rested and safe on the roads.
